This distinctively shaped bulb is specially coated like a mirror on 1/2 of its inside surface to produce an incredible 95% rating on usable light. 

As there's no outside reflector to trap heat you can place the bulb much closer to your plants without worry of scorching. This results in increased lumen exposure and strong healthy growth.
